Tree Spirits

Tree Spirits are very popular with people who don’t want to cut down their trees. Almost any face or object can be carved, though the bearded man is the most popular. Carving in live trees does not harm them, this is because the bark is not removed all the way around. The sap flow is not cut off. It’s like cutting off a branch. All that is needed is a coating of wood sealer after the carving is complete to keep out any contaminants and one every few years after that. As the tree grows the spirit will age, the bark will close in on the edges, and small cracks will give it a look of its own.
